The Power of Tarot and How It makes me better

When I first picked up a tarot deck, I didn’t expect anything more than mystical fun. What I found instead was a mirror—one that helped me see myself more clearly, ask better questions, and move through life with more purpose. Tarot didn’t predict my future. It helped me create it. See the Power of Tarot.

If you’ve ever used tarot (or are curious about starting), I’d love to hear your story in the comments!

What Is Tarot Really?

What is tarot, really? Contrary to popular belief, tarot isn’t about crystal balls or dramatic predictions of doom—it’s far more down-to-earth than that. Originally a 15th-century card game from Europe, tarot only later evolved into a tool for spiritual insight and self-reflection.

Rather than “telling the future,” tarot works more like a mirror, helping you explore your thoughts, patterns, and possibilities. Think of it as a creative conversation with your inner self—a way to gain clarity, spark mindfulness, or even kickstart a journaling session. For beginners and skeptics alike, tarot can be less about magic and more about meaning.

How Tarot Makes Me Better (Personal Story)

Personal development has been a huge part of my life for the last 5 years. The pandemic made me stop and reevaluate my path and where I was heading. Something always felt off but I didn’t know what.

Over the years, I watched, read so much content about development, career choices, life choices to find myself and what I wanted to do with my life. At this point faith and tarot were not part of my life.

Cut to 2022, still working through development content, I came across a pick a card reading by The Gem Goddess (link, not sponsored – https://www.youtube.com/@TheGemGoddess ). This caught my attention and interest. Something inside told me to watch it, so I followed along and something felt right about it.

Over time, I watched a few others when it felt right and the readings given gave me insights into myself and my life that I never felt before. I had to find out more. I chose to keep a journal and write down the readings I had. They got better and better. I will go a lot deeper in this for future posts.

More recently.

I felt that I should be doing my own readings to get a more personal connection to my faith and spirituality. So, I bought my first set of tarot cards. I had been watching The Gem Goddess exclusively (and still do!) for a few years so I got the idea of what to do. The feeling I got was that drawing 3 cards per day felt right.

After the first time, I got the same ‘right’ feeling inside. I continued for a month and now 3 months later, I am still going every morning. I cannot imagine starting my morning without it. It gives me clarity, control and a feeling of purpose. I record all this in a notebook.

In the last month, I have extended my cards to 2 additional decks. Messages from the universe and crystal healing. Great additions and give great insights. Again it’s the feeling of being right.

I have learnt so much about myself and what I think by doing this process. Discovering that I am actually quite spiritual, I want a strong connection to spirit and the universe. I do not feel alone.

There is so much for me to still learn and days can still be a struggle but sitting with my thoughts and cards, reflecting on what I have already pulled helps me bring myself back.

This is a journey that I believe I will be on for all my life. I want to see how it develops, changes me and makes me the person I am meant to be.

Tarot doesn’t tell me what to do. It helps me remember who I am.

3 Surprising Benefits of Using Tarot

Tarot has many benefits for spirituality, personal development and manifestation. It helps me to organize my life and control my mind. I can suffer with anxiety and have ADHD tendencies (undiagnosed), tarot helps me to slow down. To understand what my thoughts are, how I can be who I want to be and make better decisions.

  1. Mental Clarity: Helps organize your thoughts in a clear way. It takes thoughts step by step.
  2. Emotional Check-ins: Great for naming feelings, understanding how you feel on reflection and what this may mean in a bigger picture. It helps me to learn what to do next time.
  3. Decision Support: Reveals unconscious patterns and emotion patterns. This helps me to see more clearly the effect of each decision I make and reflecting the next day on the previous.

Getting Started (Easy for Beginners)

I absolutely consider myself as a beginner in the Tarot world. There is so much for me to learn and develop but I have got started and see the benefits. Anyone wanting to make their start too, here is what I recommend:

  • Choose a standard tarot deck (link to mine on Amazon).
  • Choose a journal to write down daily readings and daily tarot practice
  • Select a time of day to sit quietly and do your reading.
  • Shuffle the deck continuously, when you are drawn to a card or one turns over, put that card down and explore its meaning.
  • Crystals are optional.
  • Spend time understanding each car and how it fits into your life.
  • Once more confident and want to explore, see other decks to go alongside.

If you do not feel comfortable with doing your own readings yet, I highly recommend checking out The Gem Goddess on Youtube!

Tarot + Personal Development

Tarot has helped me in many areas over the years and I am still discovering its power. In future posts, I will dive deeper into these areas so stay tuned:

  • How tarot supports goal-setting, mindfulness, healing
  • Pairing tarot with therapy, meditation, creative work
  • How it helped me stop second-guessing yourself

Why I Keep Coming Back Every day

If you would have told me 5-10 years ago that I would be doing a daily tarot reading, checking in with new readings on YouTube and becoming a more spiritual person, I would have laughed and said no way. Life finds ways of giving direction and changing your course.

I am so happy I discovered this part of myself and day by day, I discover more. I am doing more than I ever thought possible and I am dreaming bigger, planning bigger and acting bigger to get the life I dream off.

Every time I sit with my deck, I come back to myself. Tarot isn’t magic. It’s me, choosing to listen.
